VOX DEI–A Lenten Experiment

Today is Ash Wednesday and it marks the beginning of the mystical 40 day season (excluding Sundays) called Lent. The Mosaic Boston community is engaging in a Lenten experiment in order to commune with God in a more mystical way by engaging in the ancient practice called Lectio Divina (”sacred reading”). Our hope is to hear God’s voice and to just be with him, rather than appealing to him like a cosmic sugar-daddy. We want to invite you to journey with us for these 40 days and experience God in new, personal, and rich ways.

I have written a guide for our journey together, which I posted on our community blog here. It has an introduction to Lectio Divina and suggested passages and meditative phrases that will guide us along in our spiritual experiment.

In order to help discipline us to do this first thing in the morning (when it is most effective), let me invite you to a community Lectio Divina time in downtown Boston at my place in Back Bay/South End (130 Dartmouth St., #419, Boston) every morning this week until next Wednesday at 6:30 AM. We’re calling this time together “Sacred Space.” We’ll share in Lectio Divina together–no sermon or teaching, just your time to listen to God’s voice through the Scripture for you that morning. A simple breakfast will be provided afterwards, before you head to work. You are most invited and welcome to bring others too.

Whether you join with us at Sacred Space or practice the Lectio Divina on your own, my hope and prayer would be that this season would be a rich time of reconnecting with your Creator and that you would catch a glimpse of the glory of Jesus Christ.

Your fellow sojourner,
Joseph
